First, I want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who sent out prayers and good thoughts into the universe. They really DID help and were very needed not just for my son but also for me. I cannot tell y'all how frightened I was. Every kind, caring, loving word here helped bring me strength. I can never thank you enough.
My son is doing well. Still a fair amount of resting, but that is to be expected. However, his appetite is back, he's up and around. He has his check in with the surgeon on the 13th.
I will tell y'all I could tell he was feeling poorly for a very long time as soon as I walked into his house. It looked like a war zone! Kitchen trash full, pizza boxes piled on the kitchen floor, every piece of silverware, every pot, pan, dish bowl, all were dirty. Two clothes baskets full of what I assume were mostly dirty. The rest of his clothes were EVERYWHERE. Both toilets were pretty gross, he has well water and any of you who have well water knows the mineral build up can get out of control.
He lives alone so it is normal for things to be messy BUT this was nuts. It was obvious that he had been coming home from work, eating something and then just sleeping until time to go back to work, for a very long time.
I think I will be heading home to SC this weekend. I can't go to his DR appointment (even if he would let me LOL) because I can't leave Zoey alone. And I do need to get Zoey back home cuz I need to take her to the vet. She is half boxer, and they are prone to allergies. I had a tumor removed from the upper part of one of her front legs a couple of years ago. (mast cell tumor, level 1 cancer) They did not get it all and the tumor is back bigger now. Mast cells are common for Boxers and they can cause histamines to flood the dogs system, which is what I believe is causing her intense paw licking and itching. I've had the vet give her a shot in the past that works pretty well. It's time for a shot for sure. For now I've been giving her as much Benadryl as is safe and while it does calm things, the itch is still an issue.
